I am looking to purchase a new television and should it be LCD or Plasma?

I am looking to buy a new television and I have mixed reviews on buying a plasma TV or LCD. I am comparing the sony Bravia 42″ LCD and the Panasonic Plasma 42″G10 range. I have heard about burn outs with plasma and this is my main concern as plasma seems to have a better picture. Which is the best option or is there a better option?
